Introduction:
In a testament to collaborative agricultural success, the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and northern Vietnam are witnessing a flourishing partnership. Vine grower Nguyen Van Nghiep from Bac Giang Province shares his triumph in cultivating the Summer Black grape, a seedless variety that has captivated the region, with support from China's Guangxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences.
Cultivating Success:
Under the expert guidance of the academy and Bacgiang Agriculture and Forestry University in 2019, Nghiep utilized his greenhouse effectively, allocating 5,000 square meters to cultivate the Summer Black grape. The outcome surpassed his previous mesh melon yields. Nghiep expanded his cultivation to one hectare, achieving an impressive yield of 8.5 tonnes per season, fetching top-quality fruit prices at 135,000 VND/kg (approximately 5.56 U.S. dollars/kg).
Decades of Progress: The Guangxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences has been a beacon of scientific and technological achievements, spreading its influence across ASEAN countries for over two decades. Lyu Ronghua, an expert from the academy, highlights the evolving landscape of agricultural cooperation between China and Vietnam. Frequent visits to agricultural demonstration bases in northern Vietnam have allowed Lyu and his colleagues to actively contribute to scientific research endeavors.
Agricultural Exchanges Intensify: "At the forefront of China's opening up and collaboration with ASEAN countries, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region has intensified agricultural exchanges and partnerships with ASEAN countries in recent years," notes Lyu. The regional department of agriculture and rural affairs reports substantial exports, with Guangxi delivering over 750 new varieties of high-quality vegetables, rice, and other crops to ASEAN countries by the end of 2022.
Market Dynamics and Popularity Surge: Recent years have witnessed an upswing in agricultural enterprises from Guangxi venturing into ASEAN markets. Simultaneously, there's been a surge in the import of high-quality crop varieties from ASEAN countries to Guangxi. Notably, the giant freshwater prawn, originating from Vietnam and other Southeast Asian countries, has gained significant popularity in Guangxi's major aquatic product markets.
Commitment to Future Collaboration: Zhong Huan, director of the foreign exchange and cooperation office of the regional agriculture and rural affairs department, underscores Guangxi's commitment to supporting enterprises in fostering collaboration with ASEAN countries. This extends to areas such as agricultural production, processing, and warehousing logistics. Furthermore, Guangxi aims to act as a bridge, facilitating the promotion of more agricultural products from ASEAN countries in the vast Chinese market.
Conclusion: This collaborative agricultural success story stands as a testament to the growing partnership between China and Vietnam, fostering innovation, knowledge exchange, and shared prosperity in the agricultural sector.
